Known as one of the poorest chief ministers in the country, Mamata Banerjee owns no house or car and has total assets worth Rs 15.4 lakh, according to details declared in her nomination affidavit.
According to the affidavit, her income for 2024–25 was Rs 23.21 lakh, higher than Rs 20.72 lakh in 2023–24. Her income was highest in 2021–22 at Rs 38.14 lakh. She has also mentioned a tax refund of Rs 40,600 for the 2025–26 financial year.
Savings And Cash
Most of her money is kept in bank accounts. She has about Rs 12.76 lakh in Indian Bank, including Rs 12.36 lakh in a savings account and Rs 40,000 kept for election expenses. She also has Rs 75,700 in cash.

Banerjee has declared gold jewellery weighing 9.75 grams, worth around Rs 1.45 lakh. Her total movable assets are Rs 15.37 lakh. She does not own any land, house or vehicle.
Among Poorest Chief Ministers
Her simple financial profile has been noted before. During the 2021 elections, a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said she was the poorest chief minister in India, with assets of around Rs 15 lakh. In 2016, her assets were about Rs 30 lakh.
Political Journey
Banerjee started her political career with the Congress in the 1970s and later formed the Trinamool Congress in 1998. She became an MP in 1984 and won several elections from Kolkata South. She has also served as a Union minister, including as Railways Minister.
Election Schedule
She became Chief Minister for the first time in 2011 and has remained in the post since then.
The West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The results will be announced on May 4. The main contest is expected to be between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP.
