Jalandhar Food Safety Raid: Tonnes of Suspected Adulterated Paneer Seized

Jalandhar, September 2, 2026: The Food Safety Department has intensified its crackdown on suspected adulterated dairy products in Jalandhar, with officials intercepting a vehicle carrying a large quantity of suspected unsafe paneer near Rama Mandi.

According to officials, the consignment was allegedly intended for supply to dairies in Jalandhar, Adampur and Hoshiarpur before reaching consumers. The paneer was seized after preliminary checks raised concerns about its quality and safety.

Vehicle Intercepted Near Rama Mandi

Food Safety officials reportedly stopped the vehicle during checking and inspected the paneer being transported.

Officials suspected that the product was adulterated and potentially unfit for human consumption. The consignment was subsequently seized and the vehicle and its driver were taken into custody for further investigation.

Manufacturing Unit Also Raided

Following the vehicle seizure, officials traced the alleged source of the paneer and conducted a raid at the manufacturing premises.

A substantial quantity of paneer was reportedly found there. Food Safety officials collected samples from the premises for laboratory examination as part of the investigation.

The latest action comes amid heightened scrutiny of dairy products in Punjab. Earlier, a Jalandhar Food Safety operation had resulted in the seizure of 1,000 kg of suspected adulterated paneer and 68 kg of milk cream, with samples sent to the State Food Laboratory for testing.

Health Concerns Raised

Food Safety officials have expressed concern over the preparation and handling of suspected adulterated paneer, warning that unsafe dairy products can pose health risks to consumers.

Authorities have advised consumers to purchase paneer and other dairy products from reliable and licensed sources and to remain cautious about unusually low-priced products.

Importantly, the seized material has been described as suspected adulterated paneer; final conclusions regarding its composition and violations will depend on laboratory analysis.

Punjab Steps Up Action Against Analogue Paneer

The crackdown comes shortly after Punjab imposed a one-year prohibition on the manufacture, storage and sale of analogue/non-dairy paneer across the state, citing public-health concerns.

The latest inspections indicate that authorities are stepping up enforcement to prevent products that do not meet prescribed dairy standards from entering the market.
