NewsDesk7 | Punjab | October 1, 2026: Two separate police operations in Punjab have highlighted the different methods allegedly being used to transport heroin, weapons and other contraband — from hiding drugs inside a tractor’s speaker box in Moga to allegedly using a luxury BMW in an operation investigated in Amritsar. The two cases, although separate, have drawn attention to the changing tactics investigators say are being used by suspected drug-trafficking networks. 1 Kg Heroin Allegedly Hidden in Tractor Speaker Box In Moga, police arrested three men who had allegedly travelled from Mansa in a Swaraj 855 tractor. According to police, the accused were waiting at the New Grain Market to allegedly deliver heroin. Investigators said approximately 1 kg of heroin had been concealed inside a speaker box fitted to the tractor's canopy. Police identified the arrested men as Jarnail Singh, Balram Kumar alias Babblu and Heera Lal alias Heera. The investigation also reportedly focused on Harpal Singh alias Babbu, whom police allege was operating the network through family members and associates. Police said he has 22 criminal cases registered against him. BMW Allegedly Used to Move Drugs and Weapons In a separate operation in Amritsar, police arrested five people and claimed to have recovered approximately 3.25 kg of heroin, 13 illegal pistols and a BMW. Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill said investigators believe the accused were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers and that drugs and weapons were allegedly brought into India through drones. These are police claims and remain subject to investigation. NDTV According to the police, the BMW was allegedly used to transport the contraband. Multiple Number Plates Under Scanner Investigators also alleged that the BMW had fake registration documents and four to five different number plates, which police believe may have been intended to reduce suspicion during vehicle checks. The revelation has added another dimension to the investigation as officers examine how vehicles and documentation may allegedly have been used to evade detection. Police Probe Possible Wider Connections The Amritsar investigation is also looking into alleged links with gangsters Jordan and Keshav Shivala, according to the police account reported by NDTV. Police are additionally investigating the identities of three people who were allegedly supposed to receive the seized weapons. NDTV Meanwhile, investigators in both Moga and Amritsar are tracing the alleged supply chains, sources of the consignments and possible financial connections. Two Vehicles, Two Alleged Methods The cases present a sharp contrast in the alleged transportation methods. In Moga, police say heroin was concealed in an agricultural tractor's speaker box. In Amritsar, investigators allege a high-end BMW was used to move drugs and weapons, with multiple number plates reportedly involved. The investigations remain ongoing, and the allegations against the accused have not been finally established by a court.
