Punjab Police Bust Two Cross-Border Smuggling Modules, Six Arrested With Heroin and Pistols

Amritsar, August 29, 2026: Punjab Police have busted two alleged cross-border weapons and narcotics smuggling modules in separate operations in Amritsar, arresting six people and recovering 2.9 kg of heroin, eight high-end pistols and six live cartridges, officials said.

The operations were conducted by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, and Counter Intelligence (CI), Amritsar. According to preliminary investigation, the suspects allegedly received consignments of weapons and narcotics through drones from across the border for further distribution in Punjab.

Six Arrested in Two Separate Operations

The arrested individuals have been identified as Inderpal Singh, Sikanderjit Singh, Happy Singh alias Veerpal Singh, Sunil Masih, Rajan Masih and Pardeep Singh.

Police said Inderpal Singh and Sikanderjit Singh are residents of Bhindi Aulakh village in Amritsar, while Happy Singh is from Kakkar. Sunil Masih and Rajan Masih are residents of Mahal in Gurdaspur, and Pardeep Singh is from Noorpur in Amritsar.

Seven Pistols Recovered in First Operation

According to AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence Amritsar received information that Sunil Masih and Rajan Masih had allegedly received a large consignment of illegal pistols and were planning to deliver the weapons to their associate Pardeep Singh near Noorpur.

Acting on the information, police intercepted the three suspects and recovered seven pistols from them.

2.9 Kg Heroin and Another Pistol Seized

In the second operation, SSOC Amritsar teams arrested Inderpal Singh, Sikanderjit Singh and Happy Singh.

Police recovered 2.9 kg of heroin and one pistol from their possession, taking the total recovery in the two operations to eight pistols.

A car and a motorcycle allegedly being used in connection with the smuggling activities were also seized by the police.

Drone Route Under Investigation

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the preliminary investigation indicates that the accused were allegedly involved in cross-border smuggling and received weapons and narcotics consignments through drones.

Investigators are now working to establish the forward and backward linkages of the alleged network and identify other people connected with the operation.

More Arrests Possible

Officials said the investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the alleged smuggling network.

AIG Sukhminder Singh Mann indicated that more arrests and recoveries could follow as investigators trace other members and handlers associated with the network.

FIRs Registered

Two separate FIRs were registered at the SSOC police station in Amritsar.

The cases invoke provisions of the Arms Act, NDPS Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam, among other applicable provisions.
