Ferozepur, August 30, 2026: A 45-year-old man was killed and another youth critically injured after armed assailants allegedly opened fire on two motorcycle-borne men in the main market of Mamdot in Ferozepur district on Saturday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, while Harpreet Singh alias Happy, 22, sustained serious bullet injuries.
Attack in Busy Mamdot Market
According to preliminary information, Gurpreet Singh and Harpreet Singh were travelling on a motorcycle when four attackers travelling in a car allegedly intercepted and fired multiple shots at them.
The incident created panic in the market area as the attackers reportedly fled the spot after the firing.
Both injured men were rushed to Civil Hospital, Ferozepur, where doctors declared Gurpreet Singh dead on arrival. Harpreet Singh, who suffered critical injuries, was subsequently referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana for specialised treatment.
AAP Connection Under Focus
The killing has acquired a political angle as Gurpreet Singh was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Sources also said that Vicky Maini, newly elected AAP president of Mamdot Nagar Panchayat, was present with the victims at the time of the attack but escaped unharmed. Gurpreet's father, Balkar Singh, is a former Congress leader.
Police Launch Manhunt
Police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are working to establish the identity and motive of the attackers.
Teams have reportedly been deployed to trace the suspects, while investigators are examining available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The motive behind the targeted firing has not yet been officially established.

The incident has once again raised concerns over targeted violence in Punjab.
While Gurpreet Singh lost his life in the attack, Harpreet Singh remains critically injured and is receiving medical treatment.
