1. ABVP’s Ankit Bidhan Wins Panjab University President’s Post
ABVP candidate Ankit Bidhan won the presidential post of the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC), defeating his rivals by more than 500 votes.
The victory came after the Student Organisation of India (SOI), the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, announced support for Bidhan shortly before the elections.
The election witnessed a four-way contest involving candidates backed by ABVP, AAP-backed ASAP, NSUI and Sath.
2. BJP to Contest All 117 Punjab Seats Alone in 2027
In a major political statement ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, BJP Punjab in-charge Satish Poonia said the party will contest all 117 Assembly constituencies on its own strength.
Poonia ruled out an alliance with other parties and said strengthening the BJP organisation at the grassroots level would be his priority.

5. Good News for Punjab: Groundwater Levels Show Improvement
Punjab has reported its first significant improvement in groundwater levels in decades, according to the latest 2026 assessment of the Central Ground Water Board, as cited by Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal.
The stage of groundwater development reportedly declined from 164% in 2022 to 152.22% in 2026. The number of over-exploited assessment units also fell from 117 to 110, while safe units increased from 17 to 20.
The state government attributed the improvement partly to expansion of canal irrigation and groundwater recharge initiatives.

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring faces another legal controversy after the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) directed authorities to take action in a case concerning alleged remarks about former Union Home Minister Buta Singh.
The Commission directed Punjab Police to provide an action-taken report and called for arrest within five days, according to reports.
Warring has described the move as politically motivated and said he had already apologised in connection with the matter.
