BJP MP Soumendu Adhikari was seen breaking down during the last rites of Chandranath Rath — a personal assistant to the party’s leader and his brother Suvendu Adhikari — on Thursday evening.
Soumendu Adhikari, a Lok Sabha MP from Kanthi, broke down in tears while paying a floral tribute to Rath, as those around tried to console him.

Rath’s last rites were held at his native place in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, on Thursday evening.
About The Incident
Chandranath Rath, a personal assistant to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead in Madhyamgram on late Wednesday evening. According to the police, Rath was travelling in a black Scorpio SUV when bike-borne assailants intercepted the vehicle and opened fire from a point-black range.
He sustained gunshot injuries in his head, chest, and abdomen, said the police, adding he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.
The incident — which followed widespread reports of post-poll violence across West Bengal — triggered a massive political storm in the state, with the BJP leaders alleging that the attack was orchestrated.
Suvendu Adhikari Reacts
Suvendu Adhikari, a frontrunner in the race for West Bengal’s Chief Minister, reacted to the incident and targeted the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government led by Mamata Banerjee.
“This is a pre-planned murder, and this is what DGP said. A recce was done for 2-3 days and a murdered was fully planned. The police initiated investigation… We are grieving and are at lack of words for condemning this incident. Our entire leadership from Delhi has taken information about this. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar talked to the family (of the deceased) and the police… Various leaders and chosen MLAs have come here from their regions… The police have found some evidence and they will investigate…”
“This is the result of 15 years of Maha-Jungle Raj… BJP will start the cleansing work of the goons here…” he said.
