Months after the tragic Air India crash at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel — which claimed over 250 lives — Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu said on Friday that the investigation into the incident in the last stages and a final report is expected within a month.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, Naidu assured the grieving families that a special ministry cell is coordinating compensation for the disaster, according to a report by PTI.
On June 12, 2025, Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787-8 aircraft en route to London Gatwick, crashed into a medical college complex shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport.
The airplane went engulfed into flames, killing 241 of the 242 people onboard and 19 others on the ground.
“Investigation is going on very strongly. We have to understand one thing that when foreign nationals were travelling on the plane that crashed, it (the probe report) will be up for scrutiny by any country. Any country or organisation can raise questions,” Naidu told reporters, as quoted by PTI.
Hence, he said, the investigation is being conducted with seriousness and transparency.
Naidu highlighted that the government will address any issue raised against the airline against by the victims’ families.
“We are monitoring the situation. We have a cell in the ministry, which is coordinating compensation and other things announced at that time. If someone has any issue, we will look into it”, PTI quoted the minister as saying.
