A video from the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram has sparked controversy after senior Congress leader Cherian Philip was seen attempting to hug newly elected Kollam MLA Bindu Krishna during a legislative party meeting, despite her apparent discomfort.
The incident, which took place in the presence of party leaders, workers and journalists, quickly went viral on social media and triggered widespread criticism against both the Congress party and Cherian Philip.
What The Viral Video Shows
The video shows Bindu Krishna arriving at the KPCC office and greeting journalists before walking towards the entrance. Dressed in a white and yellow saree, she was initially seen shaking hands with a party worker before Cherian Philip approached her.
According to the visuals, Bindu Krishna appeared to extend her hand for a handshake.
However, Philip moved forward in an apparent attempt to hug her. He was seen placing one arm around her neck while trying to lower her outstretched hand.

Social Media Backlash Grows
The reaction of several party workers and journalists present at the venue, some of whom were seen smiling during the interaction, also drew criticism online. Many social media users said the incident reflected a disregard for personal boundaries and consent.
One user wrote, “She is MLA? My god ,and this “Vulture” tries to eve teasing her and tries to hug and kiss.”
Another user said, “Whatever the intention was, when a woman clearly steps away and pushes someone aside, that boundary should be respected immediately. Public life and political seniority are never excuses for unwanted physical contact.”
