MK Stalin says DMK will let TVK chief C Joseph Vijay form government, ruling out AIADMK alliance speculations.

Tamil Nadu outgoing chief minister MK Stalin said that his party will let TVK’s Vijay form the government.

Tamil Nadu outgoing chief minister MK Stalin said that his party will let TVK’s Vijay form the government.

Tamil Nadu’s outgoing chief minister, M K Stalin, while speaking to The Times Of India, said that DMK is willing to wait for TVK chief C Joseph Vijay to form a new government in the state and added that he will “watch without disturbing for six months”.

With this statement, Stalin has put to rest all the speculation around the possibility of an AIADMK and DMK alliance.

While hinting that DMK did not want the state to face a constitutional crisis or another election soon, Stalin told TOI that he expects that the new government will continue all the schemes which have been introduced by his government, apart from fulfilling the promises that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has made in its election manifesto.

“The new govt should continue with the free breakfast scheme for schoolchildren,” Stalin said, when questioned what is on his priority list.

“And ‘Kalaignar magalir urimai thogai’ (Rs 1,000 monthly allowance to women heads of households),” Stalin said. Speaking about Vijay’s promise of giving Rs 2,500 to women, the outgoing chief minister said that this is a difficult promise to maintain. “Give them at least Rs 1,000 as we did,” he said.

The DMK president said that his government has fulfilled 90% of the promises which his party had made in its 2021 manifesto and added that some promises, like discontinuing NEET couldn’t be done because the control was with the Centre.

“In this election, too, we promised only those things we could deliver. I don’t think TVK will be able to fulfil its promises (referring to six free LPG cylinders a year to each family of ration card holders),” Stalin said, adding, “Senjaal magizhchi (we will be happy if they do).”

TVK Emerges As Single-Largest Party In Tamil Nadu

In the Tamil Nadu assembly election results, TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats. But it fell short of 10 seats to reach the majority mark.

After Congress extended its alliance, TVK gained five more seats, but still needed another five to form the government. The party has also approached CPI and VCK to extend support for the alliance.

But after Governor Arlekar voiced his discomfort with TVK’s number game and Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony appeared unlikely, speculations about AIADMK and DMK’s possible alliance started doing the rounds. The buzz gained more traction after AIADMK moved some of its MLAs to a resort in Puducherry.

The DMK bagged 59 seats, AIADMK 47, PMK 4, IUML 2, CPI 2, CPI(M) 2, and the BJP, DMDK, and AMMK one seat each.
