Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Kolkata tomorrow to attend a meeting with the newly elected BJP MLAs, during which the party’s legislative leader will be selected.

The Governor of West Bengal, RN Ravi, dissolved the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal today.

The new Chief Minister of the state and the Council of Ministers will be sworn in on Saturday, May 9th, the birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.

Preparations Under For Swearing-In Ceremony Of Next Bengal CM

Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata.

Necessary administrative meetings are being held, and tight security arrangements are being put in place for the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, and Chief Ministers from other states are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony.

5 Possible Chief Ministerial Candidates In BJP

Suvendu Adhikari: He is a former Trinamool Congress heavyweight who switched to BJP. Suvendu Adhikari is seen as one of the strongest contenders. With strong organisational network and grassroot connect, he has emerged as one of the strongest contenders.

Dilip Ghosh: A former state BJP president, Ghosh is known for building the party’s base in West Bengal during its expansion phase. His strong ideological positioning makes him a serious contender.

Sukanta Majumdar: He is among the prominent faces of the BJP in the state. Sukanta Majumdar represents the party’s younger leadership. His alignment with the central leadership could work in his favour.

Samik Bhattacharya: A senior leader with ideological grounding. He is seen as a consensus-builder within the party. Bhattacharya’s experience and acceptability could make him a compromise candidate.

Agnimitra Paul: She has gained prominence as one of BJP’s leading women figures in West Bengal. Her rise reflects BJP’s push to project more women leaders in the state.

Mamata Banerjee’s Dramatic Defeat After 15 Years Of Rule

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which had dominated Bengal politics since 2011, was decisively defeated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), winning barely around 80 seats against the BJP’s commanding 207 tally.

The blow was personal as well as political: Banerjee lost her own seat in Bhabanipur. Yet, even after this drubbing, she has refused to resign as Chief Minister, questioning the mandate and alleging irregularities, setting the stage for a contentious transition of power.
