A toddler was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar City on Friday morning, triggering panic among residents, said the police.
According to the police, the incident occurred under the Jhalawar city police station limits, when the toddler was asleep with her father and her sister under a makeshift tent, PTI reported.
The two-year-old toddler, identified as Gauri, was allegedly picked up by the stray dogs and dragged roughly 50 metres before being mauled to death, said the report.
Rajulal, a daily wage labourer and a resident of Bhanwargarh in the Baran district, said he had come to Jhalawar for the treatment of his wife.
When he woke up from sleep, he found that one of his fingers had been bitten by a pack of stray dogs, who were also attacking his daughter. He then drove the animals away and rushed the girl to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead, PTI reported.
Jhalawar SDM Abhishek Charan said the district collector directed the municipal council to submit a report on the incident and take preventive measures to curb the menace of stray dogs.
