Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief Vijay met Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Thursday for the second time in two days to renew his push for government formation.
The actor-turned-politician was called by the Governor to discuss whether he has the numbers to form a stable government in the state after TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the assembly elections with 108 seats.
The meeting between TVK Chief Vijay and Tamil Nadu Governor-in-Charge Rajendra Arlekar is very crucial.
TVK Asks Governor To Reconsider Govt Formation Bid
According to sources, TVK had sought legal opinion and asked the Governor to reconsider their request to form the government. The governor had said he would look into it.
TVK had submitted that there has been a precedent of the single largest party staking a claim to form the government without a majority.
TVK told the Governor they are confident of proving the numbers on the floor of the House. This is what was informed to the Governor in the meeting yesterday as well, when TVK’s Bussy Anand went to Raj Bhavan last evening.
Will Vijay Approach Madras HC If Governor Declines Govt Formation Bid Again?
According to sources, the TVK may approach the Madras High Court to push its bid for the government formations if the governor continues to say that he is still not convinced.
On Wednesday, the Governor had voiced his discomfort with TVK’s number game.
TVK has bagged 108 out of 234 seats. However, it fell short of the majority mark, which stands at 118. With Congress forming an alliance with TVK, it gained five more seats; however, Vijay is still short of five seats to form a government.
