The Tamil Nadu political drama appears to be nearing its conclusion, with the oath-taking ceremony set to take place tomorrow, Saturday, after days of political uncertainty, alliance negotiations, and multiple meetings with Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
The political drama began after the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election delivered a fractured verdict. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single-largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly but remained short of the majority mark of 118.
Governor Asked TVK To Prove Majority
As part of the Tamil Nadu government formation process, Vijay first met Governor Rajendra Arlekar soon after the results to stake claim to form the government. However, Raj Bhavan reportedly asked TVK to provide proof of majority support before formally inviting the party to form the government.
The Governor’s stand triggered political reactions in Tamil Nadu with Congress and TVK leaders accusing the BJP-led Centre of delaying the government formation process.

Congress, Left And VCK Changed The Numbers
The biggest turning point in the Tamil Nadu government formation process came after the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, CPI and CPI(M) extended support to TVK.
Congress contributed five MLAs while VCK, CPI and CPI(M) added two MLAs each, helping Vijay cross the majority mark in the Assembly. Sources later claimed TVK had secured the support of around 118 to 120 MLAs.
Third Meeting Cleared The Roadblock
In the latest Tamil Nadu government formation development, Vijay met Governor Arlekar for the third time and formally submitted letters of support from allied MLAs.
Soon after the meeting, sources indicated that Raj Bhavan was satisfied with the numbers and preparations had begun for the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for Saturday in Chennai.
The development marks a major political breakthrough for TVK in its first-ever Tamil Nadu Assembly election and could signal the beginning of a new political chapter in the state.
