Reasi, September 4, 2026: Security forces have uncovered an alleged terrorist hideout in the Khataji Ridge area of Mahore in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during a joint search operation.
The operation was conducted by the Army’s 58 Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Jammu and Kashmir Police following specific intelligence inputs about the possible presence of terror elements in the forested area.
Hideout Found During Intensive Search
Officials said the joint team launched a search operation in the difficult terrain of Khataji Ridge in Mahore tehsil based on intelligence inputs from local Army sources.
After extensive combing of the area, the security personnel located what officials described as a terrorist hideout and recovered weapons, ammunition and other material from the site.
Arms and Ammunition Seized
The recovery reportedly includes:
140 rounds of AK-47 ammunition One AK-47 magazine 19 rounds of PIKA LMG ammunition 25 rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition One pistol One hand grenade Medicines and six cassettes
Officials said further details, including the formal seizure memo, are awaited.
Security Forces Intensify Anti-Terror Operations
The recovery comes amid increased security activity across the forested and mountainous areas of Jammu division.
Officials have recently conducted cordon-and-search operations in districts including Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Udhampur and Reasi, following intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspected terrorists in higher reaches.
The latest seizure is being viewed as a significant development in efforts to dismantle hidden terror infrastructure in remote areas.
Investigation Underway
Security agencies are now examining the recovered material and trying to establish who had been using the hideout and whether the weapons were intended for any planned terrorist activity.
Officials said the investigation is continuing, while further searches may be carried out in nearby forest areas based on intelligence gathered during the operation.
Why the Recovery Is Significant
Hidden weapons caches can allow terror networks to store arms and supplies away from populated areas and security surveillance.
The recovery of an AK-47 magazine, large quantities of ammunition, a pistol and a grenade indicates that security forces are continuing to focus on disrupting potential support infrastructure in the mountainous belt.
Authorities are also keeping watch on possible infiltration, movement of terror operatives and attempts to revive dormant networks in the region.
