Ludhiana, September 8, 2026: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jindal Lal, posted as Police Post In-charge of Eldeco Estate under Salem Tabri Police Station in Ludhiana, after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a ₹40,000 bribe.
According to the Vigilance Bureau, the action followed a complaint from a resident of Bhattian Bet village in Ludhiana district.
What Is the Allegation?
The case reportedly stems from a dispute between the complainant's wife and a neighbour. A police case had been registered at Eldeco Estate Police Post based on medical reports, with ASI Jindal Lal acting as the investigating officer.
The Vigilance Bureau alleges that the ASI had earlier received ₹50,000 from the complainant in connection with an attempt to reach a compromise with the neighbouring party.
Despite this, the complainant's wife's case was reportedly registered. The ASI then allegedly demanded another ₹40,000 to register a cross-case against the other party.
Complainant Recorded the Conversation
According to the VB, the complainant recorded the conversation relating to the alleged demand and subsequently approached the Ludhiana Vigilance Bureau after refusing to pay the demanded amount.
The Vigilance team verified the complaint and subsequently planned a trap.
ASI Caught During Vigilance Trap
During the operation, the Vigilance Bureau allegedly caught ASI Jindal Lal accepting ₹40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. He was subsequently arrested.
A case has been registered against him at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Ludhiana, under applicable provisions of the Prevention of Corruption law.
Investigation Underway
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau said that further investigation is ongoing. The allegations against the accused will be subject to the legal process and should not be treated as a conviction unless established by a court.
