Former Punjab Police AIG Raj Jit Singh Offers to Surrender; Supreme Court Directs Him to Appear

New Delhi/Chandigarh, September 17, 2026: Former Punjab Police AIG Raj Jit Singh Hundal, who has been facing criminal proceedings linked to allegations of a police-drug trafficker nexus, has offered to surrender before the Supreme Court.

The development came during the hearing of his Special Leave Petition (Criminal No. 15843/2026) challenging a July 20, 2026 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A Supreme Court bench comprising Justice M.M. Sundresh and Justice Augustine George Masih took note of his counsel's submission that Hundal was willing to surrender.

Supreme Court Directs Raj Jit to Surrender

According to the Supreme Court proceedings, Senior Advocate Amit Rawal, appearing for Hundal, informed the bench that his client was ready to surrender.

The Court subsequently directed him to surrender and adjourned the matter. The case is scheduled to be taken up again on October 1, 2026. The Court has also kept open Hundal's liberty to file an appropriate application after surrender.
