Amritsar Police Bust Illegal Arms Supply Network, Two Arrested With 8 Pistols and 103 Cartridges

Amritsar, September 4, 2026: Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an alleged illegal arms supply network and arrested two men, recovering eight .30-bore pistols and 103 live cartridges, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said.

The operation is part of the Punjab Police’s ongoing campaign against illegal weapons and organised criminal networks in the state.

Two Suspects Arrested

The arrested accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Jeeta, 24, of Bainka village in Tarn Taran, and Gurbir Singh alias Gora, 32, of Tara Singh village. Police said Ranjit has a criminal history involving cases under the Arms Act, NDPS Act and Explosives Act.

Police acted on intelligence and laid a naka near Gurdwara Bohri Sahib Road, where Ranjit was intercepted. One .30-bore pistol and three live cartridges were initially recovered from him.

Five Pistols and 103 Cartridges Recovered From Ranjit

During further questioning and investigation, police recovered four additional .30-bore pistols and 100 live cartridges from Ranjit, taking the recovery from him to five pistols and 103 cartridges.

Investigators then traced his alleged associate Gurbir Singh alias Gora, who was subsequently arrested. Three more .30-bore pistols were recovered from him, taking the total seizure to eight pistols.

Alleged Links With Overseas Smugglers

According to preliminary police findings, the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based arms smugglers through social media applications.

Police suspect that illegal consignments of foreign-made weapons were being received and subsequently supplied to criminal elements operating in Punjab. The investigation is continuing to establish the suspected overseas and cross-border connections.

Gurbir Had Returned From Dubai

Police said their investigation also revealed that Gurbir Singh had returned from Dubai around six months ago.

Investigators are examining whether his overseas stay has any connection with the alleged arms-supply network and whether additional individuals or handlers are involved.

FIR Registered in Amritsar

A case has been registered at Islamabad Police Station under Amritsar Commissionerate.

The FIR, numbered 264 and dated August 30, 2026, has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, according to police-related reports.

Police Probe Wider Network

Authorities are now focusing on identifying the source of the weapons, intended recipients and the wider supply chain.

Police are also working to establish the backward and forward linkages of the network and verify the suspected cross-border connections. Further arrests are possible as the investigation progresses.

Major Security Concern

The recovery of eight illegal pistols and more than 100 live cartridges has highlighted the continued challenge posed by illicit firearms entering Punjab’s criminal ecosystem.

The police investigation will now determine whether the arrested men were operating independently or were part of a larger organised network supplying weapons to gangs and other criminal groups.
