West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee may be unable to bag a fourth consecutive term, as pollsters predicted a tight contest between the ruling TMC and the opposition BJP as voter projections were published on Wednesday.
A majority of the pollsters, however, projected the BJP wresting West Bengal from Mamata Banerjee with a clear majority as voting wrapped up for the second phase in the state.
According to the exit polls, the BJP will win Bengal and, in many cases, with a clear majority with one to two pollsters predicting either a TMC victory or a close contest. The poll of polls, however, projected an advantage for the saffron party with a knife’s edge difference with the ruling party.
Here’s what the numbers look like:
- The exit poll by Chanakya Strategies has projected 150 to 160 assembly seats in the BJP’s corner while placing the TMC with 130 to 140 seats of the total 294 seats in the state. Other parties, meanwhile, are projected to win six to 10 seats.
- According to Matrize, the BJP is winning with 146 to 161 seats, while the TMC is projected to win 125 to 140 seats with other parties projected to win six to 10 seats.
- The exit poll by Poll Diary has projected 142 to 171 seats for the BJP, while placing the TMC with 99 to 127 seats while other political parties are projected to win five to nine seats.
