Union Home Minister Amit Shah attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying she plays a “victim card” by putting ‘fake bandages”.
Speaking at a rally in Bankura, Shah said: “Mamata Didi plays the victim card. Sometimes she puts a fake bandage on her leg, sometimes on her head. Mamata Didi, wherever you want to put the bandage on your leg, hand, or head do it, but the people of Bengal will not vote for you…” Follow for live updates
In 2024, Mamata Banerjee had suffered a head injury after a fall at her residence. She received stitches and was later discharged from the hospital.
Following the incident, a controversy erupted as it was initially suggested that it was caused by “some push from behind”. Later, PTI quoted SSKM Hospital director Manimoy Bandyopadhyay clarifying that she might have felt “a sensation of push” that led to the fall.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday intensified the BJP’s campaign in poll-bound West Bengal, focusing on citizenship, infiltration, and governance, while promising faster implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act if his party comes to power.
In a previous rally, the Union Home Minister said the countdown to the end of TMC’s ‘syndicate rule’ has begun.
“I request you all to bring the BJP to power in Bengal, and then we will question each and every syndicate in the state that has exploited the innocent people of Bengal and action will be taken,” he said.
“I promise to the people of Bengal and Vishnupur that the day BJP’s chief minister takes the oath, Bengal’s potatoes, which have a large market, will be sold to Orissa and other neighbouring states; it will bring revenue to the state,” he said.
“Mamata Banerjee has failed to provide safety and security to the people of the state. Under her rule women are not respected,” he asserted.
