Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that soon PM will get to taste ‘jhal’ (spicy taste) after the declaration of the elections results on May 4.
Addressing a poll rally in West Bengal, Banerjee said, “We did not get jhal, but surely you will when the results come out on May 4th. That time you will know what Jhal is,” she said.
Bengal CM’s reference to sarcastic ‘jhal’ is related to PM Modi’s recent ‘jhalmuri break’ that he took while he was rallying for the BJP in West Bengal’s Jhalgram.
‘I Ate It But TMC Felt The Sting’: PM’s Jhalmuri Jibe At Mamata
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in a BJP victory in Bengal and said that celebrations would be held on May 4, with sweets and jhalmuri to be distributed.
Addressing a massive public meeting in Krishnanagar, the Prime Minister said, “On May 4, there will also be celebrations of BJP’s victory in Bengal, sweets will be distributed and jhalmuri will also be shared.”
Attacking the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, PM Modi said, “By the way, I have heard that jhalmuri has also given some people a strong jolt. I have eaten jhalmuri, but it is TMC that has felt the sting.”
Additionally, PM Modi appreciated the Election Commission of India for the establishment of democracy in the West Bengal Assembly elections and requested everyone to cast their votes.
“I request everyone to go and vote, a new record should be created by voters. This is the first time in 50 years that violence is very much low in the elections. I thank the Election Commission for establishing democracy in the state. This is a very big achievement of the poll body,” PM Modi said.
“I congratulate the state government employees, and I am getting information that the voting percentage is higher than in previous elections,” he added.
Mamata Calls PM Modi’s ‘Jhalmuri’ Break A Scripted Drama
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘jhalmuri break’ during a high-octane political campaign in Jhargram, calling it “scripted drama” and questioning how cameras were placed in the area before his arrival.
PM Modi made an unexpected stop at a roadside jhalmuri stall on Sunday while campaigning for the West Bengal Assembly elections, approaching the vendor and having the popular Bengali snack freshly prepared.
“It’s all drama. How come a camera was present when the prime minister suddenly made an unscheduled stop during the campaign? The entire episode was scripted. He was seen carrying a Rs 10 note in his pocket. Is it believable?” Mamata Banerjee said during an election rally, without naming PM Modi.
“Sometimes, during elections, he goes into a cave. Sometimes he claims to be a chaiwala. He is spending Rs 10 on a jhalmuri that is made by their own people. Why was a camera already installed in the shop beforehand? This is all drama. He brings his own people from outside by train to his meetings,” she said, adding that the TMC will stop all attempts to stop vote theft.
