The Vande Bharat train, travelling from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai to Solapur, derailed while entering Pune. The crossing upgrade had been planned as part of the yard remodelling of the Pune station.
The incident disrupted rail traffic for some time. Railway authorities quickly dispatched a team to the site and began restoration work. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, though a technical fault or track-related issue is being suspected.
A diamond crossing is a railway track layout in which two tracks intersect at an angle, forming a diamond shape, allowing trains to cross without switching lines.
тАЬShifting of passengers to another rake is planned. The diamond crossing is being replaced on a priority, and similar non-standard diamond crossings across Indian Railways are also being replaced,” the chief PRO said.
