Months after Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra following the death of her husband, Ajit Pawar, she has now won the Baramati bypolls by 2.18 lakh margin
Necessitated after the death of then Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28, Sunetra served in her husband’s place in the state Cabinet.
This election win is important for Sunetra Pawar to fulfil a Constitutional provision which requires a deputy CM to become a member of one of the two houses of the state legislature – assembly or council – within six months of taking oath.
Following this, Sunetra thanked her supporters for helping her win. In a post on X, she said: “This was the first election in Baramati following the passing of the revered Ajitdada. The absence of his guidance and presence is felt acutely today; this victory is not merely a political triumph for me, but a true tribute to the revered Dada’s work and cherished memories.”
“I offer my heartfelt thanks to all the senior leaders, office-bearers, and every worker of the Nationalist Congress Party..!” she said.
