In a tragic incident, three people lost their lives and five others sustained serious injuries after an SUV caught fire following a collision with a dumper truck in Rajasthan’s Churu district on Thursday night.
The crash took place on the Pilani-Sadulpur road under the Hamirwas police station limits. Officials said the victims were travelling in a Bolero registered in Churu and were returning from a wedding in Pilani when the vehicle rammed into the truck and went up in flames.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured from both vehicles before they were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, PTI reported.
Station House Officer Rai Singh Suthar said the incident caused a major traffic disruption in the area, with authorities diverting vehicles to manage the congestion.
IPS officer Abhijit Patil said identifying the deceased immediately was difficult due to the severe burns suffered in the fire.
“Identification will be possible only through DNA testing, the process for which has been initiated,” he said. Meanwhile, police have launched a probe to determine what led to the accident. No arrests have been made so far.
