A Thane-based man has been booked for allegedly cheating a 42-year-old woman of over Rs 31 lakh on the pretext of marriage, police said.
The Navghar Police have registered a case against the accused, identified as Kamlesh Moti Dalvi, a resident of Thane, following a complaint by the woman from Mulund (East), who said she met him in 2020 while working at a call centre.
According to the complaint, the accused began borrowing money from her in November 2020, citing heavy business losses. In July 2022, she introduced him to her family, but he repeatedly postponed their wedding, giving reasons such as deaths in his family.
The woman alleged that Dalvi eventually married her on December 5, 2024, but took money from her even for the wedding mangalsutra and did not purchase it. Despite the marriage, he continued to make excuses, claimed he had no house, took more money, and never came to live with her.
Police said a case has been registered and a search operation is underway to trace and arrest the accused, who is currently absconding.
