The prime accused in the case — linked to sexual assault and religious coercion at Tata Consultancy Service (TCS) unit in Maharashtra’s Nashik — used separate passwords for every file and application on his mobile phone, said the police, adding that it is leading to hurdles in the probe.
According to the report by the Times of India, the accused was taken by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Nashik on Friday evening to unlock his mobile phone, which was found locked with Face ID, said the police.
“Investigators are encountering difficulties accessing key digital evidence due to the multiple layers of password protection on the accused’s phone. As a result, forensic assistance has been sought to enable access to the device”, ACP (crime) Sandeep Mitke, who is leading the SIT, told TOI.
What Is The Case?
The accused, a TCS employee, is among four other suspects who were remanded in police custody till April 29. They are facing allegations of sexual harassment and religious coercion at the Nashik unit of the company.
The issue first came to light on March 25, when a 23-year-old employee filed an FIR accusing a colleague of rape on the pretext of marriage.
As the investigation progressed, more complaints surfaced, expanding the case to include sexual harassment, misconduct and attempts at forced conversion.
Police suspect the matter may involve a pattern targeting vulnerable employees.
