Tamil Nadu Government Formation News Live Updates: Vijay Seeks VCK Support; TVK Targets Single-Digit Seat Parties

Tamil Nadu Government Formation, CM Oath Taking Ceremony Live Updates: Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is set to form the government in Tamil Nadu in alliance with Congress after emerging as the single-largest party in assembly elections with 108 seats.

Even before Congress extended its support, Vijay had written to the state governor, Rajendra Arlekar and sought an invitation to form the government.

The dramatic win of TVK and the meteoric rise of Vijay in the world of politics are reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics. With TVK and Congress set to form government in the state, DMK and AIADMK – the political parties which once ruled the state – will now sit in Opposition.

Vijay Stakes Claim To Power, Says Will Prove Majority In Two Weeks

Amid all the speculations, TVK’s Vijay has written to the state governor, Rajendra Arlekar and sought an invitation to form the government. In the letter, he has stated that the party will prove its majority within two weeks.

Congress Extends Support To TVK

The Congress has decided to extend support to Vijay’s TVK in Tamil Nadu after it emerged as the single-largest party in the state with 108 seats. According to reports, the party has demanded two cabinet posts.

The Congress has won five seats in the assembly elections. So with the support of Congress, TVK is still falling short of five seats.

Besides Congress, Left parties — CPI and CPI(M)– may support the TVK, though they are still waiting for a communication from Vijay. TVK has sent an invitation to CPI to extend their support. Now, the question remains who else will join this alliance and push it to the majority mark of 118 seats?

Vijay Thanks Supporters After TVK’s Landmark Performance

Following the election results, Vijay addressed the people of Tamil Nadu in a post on X, reflecting on the criticism and mockery his party had faced since its inception.

He said TVK had entered the political arena “without depending on anyone” and had placed its trust entirely in the people.

“From the very beginning of our party, there were many who mocked and ridiculed us. We understood that this is natural in politics and moved forward beyond it,” Vijay said.

He credited young voters as a key factor behind the party’s success, noting that the younger generation had influenced their families “with strong conviction.”

Will AIADMK MLAs Support TVK?

As per sources, around 35 MLAs gathered at AIADMK leader CV Shanmugham’s office in Chennai to extend support to TVK, signalling a rift within the party.

Vijay Likely To Meet Governor Today, Take Oath On May 7

Vijay is likely to meet Governor Rajendra Vishwanath today to stake a claim for forming the government. The governor is likely to give Vijay two options: either he will ask him to prove his majority on the floor of the legislative assembly, or he may ask him to submit letters of support from “allied” parties.

Vijay is likely to take the oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7.
