Malaysia Angle Emerges in TCS Nashik Conversion Racket Probe
From sexual exploitation to attempts at religious conversion – the case of harassment at a BPO unit at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Maharashtra’s Nashik has thrown up startling and shocking details.
The family friend of the first victim, who registered the case against Danish at the Deolali camp police station on condition of anonymity, revealed some disturbing details with CNN-News18.
Speaking to CNN-News18, he said, “We are not allowed to speak to the media; otherwise cops will take action against us. The victim has been working here for the last 4 years. She met the accused here while at work.”
‘She Started Observing Roza’
Her behaviour started to change slowly at the workplace, he said, adding, “This is when the family realised there was something wrong. She started keeping Roza for the last 2 years.”
The family, suspecting something amiss, made her take leave from her workplace and took her to her aunt’s place at Ahilyanagar. She was there for 21 days. The family convinced her to open up, and that’s how she recorded the statement,” he told CNN-News18.
”She told the family that there were two people at the workplace who were blackmailing her,” he added.
He further revealed that the two seniors were harassing her. “She was threatened that if she speaks up against them, they will release her video on social media and pass it on to her family,” the person added.
What is TCS Nasik Case?
An investigation into activities at a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO facility in Nashik has revealed an alleged conversion racket with possible international links. The case came to light after a tip-off in February prompted a covert police operation, during which women constables were deployed undercover as housekeeping staff. Investigators say evidence from WhatsApp chats, victim statements and a suspected Malaysia-linked preacher indicates the presence of a wider network functioning within the office.
According to Special Investigation Team (SIT) sources, at least 12 employees have been identified as alleged targets, up from an earlier figure of nine. So far, nine FIRs have been registered, based on complaints by eight women and one man. The charges include sexual harassment, rape on the pretext of marriage, religious manipulation and hurting religious sentiments.
FIRs state that the accused employees allegedly molested women colleagues and tried to pressure them into religious conversion. The incidents were reported by women aged between 18 and 25 and are said to have taken place over two to three years, beginning around 2022.
Who All Are Involved In TCS Nasik Case?
According to police, so far TCS employees who have been arrested include Asif Ansari, Shafi Sheikh, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, Danish Sheikh and HR manager Nida Khan, in connection with multiple FIRs related to sexual harassment and coercion.
The case, which involves around nine FIRs, has multiple female complainants whose identities have not been disclosed, while some other employees and team leaders are also under investigation.
Meanwhile, TCS has also initiated an internal probe under senior officials, even as a total of seven arrests have been made so far.
