A West Bengal man who had not cut his hair for 15 years to protest Trinamool Congress rule finally shaved his head after the party’s defeat in the 2026 assembly elections.

The man, identified as BJP supporter, Baneshwar Barman, a resident of Bengal’s Baman Para village, had taken the vow in 2011 after Mamata Banerjee-led TMC came to power in Bengal, according to reports. He had then declared that he would not cut his hair until the Trinamool lost power in the state.

With the BJP registering a historic victory in the 2026 Bengal assembly polls and ending TMC’s 15-year rule, Mondal fulfilled his vow this week by shaving his head at a local salon.

Visuals from the area showed people gathering around as Barman got his hair shaved. BJP supporters also celebrated the moment, calling it symbolic of the political change in Bengal.

The BJP won more than 200 seats in the 294-member assembly, while the TMC was reduced to around 80 seats. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee also lost the Bhabanipur constituency to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The Bengal election results marked the BJP’s first-ever victory in the state assembly polls and brought an end to the TMC government that had been in power since 2011.
