A court has directed an investigation and ordered the registration of an FIR against Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara regarding his public statement about placing a Rs 500 bet during a kabaddi tournament in Tumakuru.
In October 2025, during a state-level kabaddi tournament, Home Minister Parameshwara admitted to the media that he lost a Rs 500 bet to the District Collector (DC) Shubha Kalyan.
Following this, a private complaint was filed by HR Nagabhushan, who argued that as the home minister, Parameshwara’s public admission of gambling—an illegal act—required legal action, especially after local police allegedly declined to act on his earlier complaint due to lack of materials.
Court Orders FIR Against Parameshwara For Betting
The court has now directed the jurisdictional Kodigehalli police in Tumakuru to investigate the matter, according to reports in Kannada News18 and The Times of India.
Defence: Dr Parameshwara previously clarified that the incident was not serious betting but a “light-hearted discussion” during a sporting event, stating, “As Home Minister, would I go to the extent of placing bets? Unnecessary controversy is being created.”
