TMC accuses BJP of widespread post poll violence in West Bengal, alleging attacks on workers, offices and candidates, arson and vandalism across multiple districts.

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of unleashing violence across West Bengal following the saffron party’s sweeping Assembly election victory, alleging attacks on party workers, offices and candidates.

Political clashes and vandalism were reported from multiple districts, including Barrackpore, Murshidabad, Paschim Bardhaman, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Siliguri.

The TMC condemned an alleged attack on its candidate Samir Panja in Udaynarayanpur, accusing the BJP of resorting to “gutter politics.” “This is not democracy; this is sheer thuggery,” the party said in a statement on X.

According to party leaders, flex boards, banners and festoons at several TMC offices were torn down or defaced after poll trends indicated a decisive BJP victory.

At Baruipur in South 24 Parganas, local TMC leaders alleged that photographs of party chairperson Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee were thrown to the ground during vandalism.

In another post on X, the TMC alleged that BJP supporters attacked its party office in Berhampore, Murshidabad. “BJP has shown its true colors right after coming to power. Their goons led a violent attack on the TMC party office in Berhampore, Murshidabad. Vandalism and chaos—this is the real face of the BJP,” the party wrote.

The party also claimed that its office in Siliguri was set on fire amid the post-poll violence, though authorities have yet to officially confirm the allegations.

In Panihati, the TMC claimed its office was “captured” after saffron flags and lotus symbols replaced party signboards. At Jamuria in Paschim Bardhaman, unidentified persons allegedly set a TMC office on fire, while another office was vandalised in Asansol.

Clashes were also reported outside a counting centre in Barrackpore, where BJP and TMC supporters allegedly scuffled. TMC candidate Trinankur Bhattacharya claimed he was assaulted by BJP supporters while leaving the venue.
