Direct Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat train services to start soon
In a major boost to rail connectivity, direct train services between Jammu and Srinagar will begin soon. The move is expected to ease travel and further strengthen links between the Jammu region and the Kashmir Valley.
According to officials, the Railway Minister will flag off the Vande Bharat Express connecting the two cities on April 30, marking the formal launch of the service.
The rollout will enable seamless rail travel between Jammu and Srinagar, reducing journey time while offering a faster and more comfortable option for passengers.
The service is being seen as a key milestone in improving access to Kashmir. It is expected to benefit daily commuters, tourists, and residents by providing a more reliable mode of transport.
Officials said the direct rail link will not only improve passenger movement but also support regional growth by boosting tourism and economic activity.
The initiative forms part of the Railways’ broader effort to expand and modernise connectivity, especially in challenging terrains and remote regions across the country.
Vande Bharat Train Details Announced
Northern Railway has also announced the extension of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express up to Jammu Tawi. The extended service will be inaugurated on April 30, 2026, with a special inaugural run.
The Inaugural Special Train (No. 02601) will depart from Jammu Tawi at 10:30 AM, halt at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra between 11:54 AM and 11:59 AM for boarding and de-boarding, and arrive in Srinagar at 3:05 PM. The train will run with a modern Vande Bharat rake comprising 20 coaches.
Railway officials said the schedule and timings for regular operations will be announced separately in due course.
