In a shocking incident in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, a 58-year-old man allegedly beheaded his wife and then walked around their village carrying her severed head, police said on Thursday.
The crime took place on Wednesday evening in Bundeli village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rajgamar police outpost. According to officials, the accused, identified as Salik Ram Yadav, works as a watchman at a local poultry farm.
Police said Yadav allegedly attacked his 50-year-old wife with a sharp meat-cutting weapon following a dispute while he was under the influence of alcohol. The argument is believed to have escalated, leading to the brutal killing.
After the murder, witnesses saw Yadav roaming through the village, holding the severed head in one hand and the weapon in the other. He later put both the head and the weapon into a plastic sack, left the torso at the crime scene, and went to the Rajgamar police outpost, officials said.
During interrogation, Yadav reportedly told police that he committed the crime after frequent quarrels with his wife, who he claimed often suspected his character.
The couple, originally from Ajgarbahar Haldimada village in Korba block, had been employed at the poultry farm for the past three years. They have four children, police said.
Yadav has been arrested, and the weapon used in the crime has been seized. The woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway, officials added.
