Atishi defends Arvind Kejriwal, says his call for Gen Z to emulate Nepal and Bangladesh protests over the NEET paper leak seeks peaceful accountability, not violence

After former Delhi chief minister and AAP leader, Arvind Kejriwal said that IndiaтАЩs Gen Z should take inspiration from the Nepal and Bangladesh protests and help bring the culprits of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) question paper leak to justice, AAP leader Atishi on Wednesday defended KejriwalтАЩs remarks and said the former Delhi CM was not calling for violence while speaking about the NEET paper leak row.
Clarifying KejriwalтАЩs comments, Atishi said he was asking young people to demand accountability from those responsible for paper leaks and corruption in examinations. She alleged that while NEET aspirants face strict checks and rules during exams, there is little accountability for those conducting them.
Speaking to NDTV, Atishi said, тАЬI donтАЩt think there is any question about suggesting violence. I think that the Aam Aadmi Party, before that India Against Corruption, has always stood for peaceful protest.”
тАЬBut the fact is that this Gen Z is having their rights, their lives, their dreams and hopes shattered. And if they donтАЩt come out on the streets, they donтАЩt protest, they donтАЩt raise their voices against those responsible, the same thing will keep happening again and again,” she added, referring to the NEET-UG cancellation.
The controversy erupted after Kejriwal referred to youth-led political movements in Bangladesh and Nepal while speaking about the alleged NEET paper leak.
He said if Gen Z in neighbouring countries could bring political change, Indian youth could also ensure action against those involved in exam scams.
BJP leaders criticised the remarks and accused Kejriwal of encouraging unrest. In response, Atishi said the AAP chief was speaking about democratic accountability and not violence. She accused the BJP of twisting his statement for political gains.
