Tamil Nadu Elections: In his first remarks after a stunning electoral debut, actor-turned-politician Vijay said his party faced “mockery” and “slanderous attacks” but chose to stand “boldly and fearlessly” in the electoral battle. The chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) reacted a day after his two-year-old party won 108 seats in Tamil Nadu, just 10 short of a majority- disrupting the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in the state.
“Since the very inception of our party, we have encountered far more people who viewed and spoke of us with mockery,” Vijay wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), continuing, “Recognising that this is simply the nature of politics, we moved past it and pressed on.”

He added, “Relying on no one but the people themselves, we stood boldly and fearlessly on the electoral battlefield,” framing the campaign as an effort to “repay a debt of gratitude” to the people of Tamil Nadu.
Taking a swipe at critics, Vijay said, “In the guise of ‘neutrality’ and under the cloak of ‘criticism’, we were gifted with nothing but masked insults and slanderous attacks.”
Despite this, he said, the people stood by the party with “the unconditional love of a mother.”
Calling the verdict a “miraculous election”, Vijay said his prediction that it would “send tremors through the Indian political landscape” had come true “in every conceivable way.”
He also credited young voters, saying “the little ones” who urged their families to vote were among the key drivers of the result.
Describing the outcome as more than just a political win, Vijay said it marked the victory of “emotional democracy” over corruption and the “rule of money.”
“Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam is indeed the primary, monumental force driving change in this state,” he said, expressing “lifelong gratitude” to the people. The result signals a major political shift in Tamil Nadu, with TVK emerging as a formidable new force in the state
