Ahead of the first anniversary of India’s Operation Sindoor, a senior Pakistani political figure has publicly acknowledged the military’s direct backing of designated terrorists Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar.

Pakistan Nazriyati Party chief Shaheer Sialvi said the country’s armed forces accorded full state honours, including military funerals with uniformed pallbearers, to those killed during the operation.

Sialvi was heard saying that the funerals of the terrorists were not led by clerics but by the Pakistan Army’s religious officials.

He added that bodies were carried by uniformed personnel, which he said was an attempt to show the world that the deceased were not terrorists but “fighters” who lost their lives for a cause.

The remarks, delivered at an event organised by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), challenge Pakistan’s long-held “non-state actor” position and point to deep-seated institutional links with terror groups operating under the banner of “freedom fighting.”

Sialvi, whose father is Pakistani Army Brigadier Haider Malik, also referred to the impact of India’s strikes, citing Muridke and Bahawalpur, which are known strongholds of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

“For the first time it happened that attacks took place on Muridke and Bahawalpur … The attacks took place on those two places that India had already declared as terrorist hubs internationally and had convinced the world of its narrative. This is the first time it has happened that if we have fought this war, it has been under the leadership of Hafiz Saeed and Maulana Masood Azhar,” said Sialvi.

The PNP leader further admitted that he has also met Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed. The leader was seen making the remarks in a widely circulated video on social media.

Operation Sindoor And Pahalgam Attack

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 last year in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead.

The operation focused on dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled areas, targeting sites associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The strikes triggered four days of heavy military confrontation, which concluded on May 10 with an understanding to de-escalate and halt further action.
