Pune Land Dispute Turns Violent: Two Sons Allegedly Assault Elderly Parents With Sticks

Pune, September 2, 2026: A land dispute in Pune district allegedly turned violent when two brothers attacked their elderly parents with wooden sticks after objecting to the sale of land registered in their mother’s name, police said.

The incident took place around 6 pm on August 30 in Tarangwadi village of Indapur tehsil. The victims have been identified as 65-year-old farmer Tukaram Kisan Raut and his ailing wife, Anjana Raut.

Sons Allegedly Followed Parents in Car

According to the complaint filed by Tukaram, he and his wife were out for their evening walk when their sons, Sanjay Raut and Rajendra Raut, allegedly followed them in a car.

The brothers reportedly confronted their parents over the sale of land belonging to their mother. An argument followed, after which the two allegedly abused and assaulted the couple with wooden sticks.

Elderly Couple Sustains Injuries

Tukaram reportedly suffered injuries to his back, face, thighs and left shoulder. His wife Anjana was allegedly struck on her right wrist and waist.

The brothers allegedly demanded that their parents reverse the land transaction and threatened them with further consequences if the property was not taken back.

Bystanders Alert Police

People passing through the area reportedly gathered after witnessing the confrontation and alerted the police.

The injured couple was subsequently taken to the Indapur Sub-District Hospital for treatment. A video of the alleged assault, recorded by local residents, was later circulated on social media.

Police Register Case

The Indapur police have registered a case against the two brothers based on Tukaram’s complaint.

According to police and media reports, the charges include voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons, intentional insult intended to provoke a breach of peace and criminal intimidation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The investigation is underway.

Land Sale at Centre of Dispute

Police say the immediate trigger for the confrontation was the sale of land registered in Anjana’s name.

The incident has once again highlighted how family disputes over land, property and inheritance can escalate into violence, particularly when disagreements remain unresolved.

The allegations against the accused brothers are part of an ongoing criminal investigation and will be subject to due legal process.
