On March 23, Assam politician and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nandita Gorlosa joined the Congress party at the last minute ahead of the 2026 assembly elections in Assam.
The sitting MLA from the Haflong (ST) constituency and a former state minister took the step after the BJP denied her a ticket for the upcoming polls, instead nominating newcomer Rupali Langthasa from the seat.
As part of a broader strategy to counter anti-incumbency, the BJP dropped several sitting MLAs and fielded newcomer Rupali Langthasa from the Haflong seat.
Her switch came just a day before the nomination deadline and prompted the Congress to reshuffle its candidate list, with the party deciding to field her from the Haflong constituency.
