Anupam Mittal has announced a one-day-a-week work-from-home policy for employees of Shaadi.com, saying the move could help save nearly 30,000 litres of petrol annually.
Mittal shared the announcement in a post on X, linking the decision to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to reduce fuel consumption and cut imports by reviving some Covid-era work practices.

“Kabhi socha nahin, but 1 day remote for 500 employees means 30k litres of petrol saved a year. Wed r now WFH,” Mittal wrote.
Calling it a “small move” with “real intent,” he said nation-building does not always require major sacrifices and can begin with fewer vehicles on roads during weekdays.
According to estimates shared by Mittal, the initiative could prevent around six lakh kilometres of annual commuting by employees.
The calculation is based on nearly 500 employees working remotely for approximately 50 days a year.
The announcement quickly gained traction online, drawing widespread reactions on social media.
While many users praised the move as a practical step towards sustainability and fuel conservation, others questioned why the company limited remote work to just one day a week instead of adopting a broader work-from-home model.
The move comes amid renewed discussions around flexible work policies in India, years after remote work became widespread during the Covid-19 pandemic.
