Two women were seriously injured in Bhubaneswar’s Bhimgarpur after two men on a bike hit and assaulted them, locals beat the accused, killing one.
Locals alleged that the accused also forcibly kissed and harassed the women during the incident.

Two women were seriously injured after they were attacked by two men in Bhubaneswar’s Bhimgarpur area on Thursday, police said adding that one of the accused was beaten to death by the passersby.
Police said that preliminary investigation has revealed that two youths riding a motorcycle had hit the women, dragged them along the road and also assaulted them before attempting to flee. However, the locals rushed to the spot upon hearing the women’s screams and were able to prevent the accused from escaping.
NDTV quoted witnesses saying that the crowd attacked both accused before police arrived. In the assault, one of the accused died while the other sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
OdishaTV quoted one of the witnesses saying, “The incident happened this morning around 11-11:30 am. I was going to Bhingarpur for my work. Suddenly, as I was going, I heard a sound in front of me. I had just gone about 200 meters when I heard the sound. When I came back, turned my vehicle, and looked, two boys were doing something. They were attacking two girls. Then, one girl fell down and was being severely attacked by one boy. He was hitting her head and other parts. Then, when I saw the girl, I went to one girl and tried to move her aside, another boy suddenly forcefully attempted to rape or do something bad. He was forcefully kissing her on the road. When I asked, “Who is this?”, they said, “We don’t recognize or know them.” Then he was trying to escape. I took the key to their bike. Then the boy who had attempted all these indecent acts crossed the barricade there and fled into the bushes.”
He further said: “After that, people gathered there, and that boy showed aggression to them too. What the public did, seeing that boy was wrong, whether they hit him or what they did, that’s a different matter.”
While the Balianta police has not officially confirmed the sequence of events, they said that the injured women are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Meanwhile, OdishaTV quoted locals alleging that the accused, who are reportedly from Adaspur, also forcibly kissed and attempted to rape the women during the incident. However, police said, the allegations are being investigated to ascertain the motive of the attack.
They further said that one of the accused has been taken into custody for questioning. He is currently being detained at the police station
