Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has sparked a major aviation security debate after alleging “leering” and “harassment” by a group of men aboard an IndiGo flight to Delhi on Thursday. Moitra, who was travelling to the capital on official work to attend a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence, took to social media site X to name and shame the airline while demanding immediate punitive action.
The Incident on 6E 719
According to the MP, the incident occurred on flight 6E 719, where she was seated in 1F. Moitra alleged that a group of 4-6 men boarded the aircraft and “leered” at her before moving to the back of the plane. The situation reportedly escalated upon landing; Moitra claimed that before the cabin doors could open, the group filmed her without consent.

“This is no ‘citizen anger’,” Moitra posted, dismissing any suggestion that the heckling was a spontaneous political reaction, coming against the backdrop of the ruling TMC’s defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections to the BJP. “This is harassment and violates my safety in an aircraft.”
Demand for ‘No-Fly List’
The Krishnanagar MP tagged Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, demanding that the louts be identified and placed on the no-fly list. She also called upon IndiGo to find the crew report and “name and shame” the individuals involved.
The post was widely circulated, with Moitra tagging senior INDIA bloc leaders including Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, and MK Stalin, framing the incident as part of a broader pattern of safety concerns for women in public life.
IndiGo’s Protocol
While IndiGo has yet to release a formal statement regarding the specific identities of the passengers, the airline typically follows a standard protocol of internal investigation before recommending names to the DGCA for the No-Fly list. The incident has once again turned the spotlight on unruly passenger behaviour, an issue that has frequently plagued Indian domestic carriers over the last year.
