A 29-year-old software engineer from Tamil Nadu allegedly died by suicide at her apartment in JP Nagar, after “enduring years of mental and physical harassment over dowry demands” from her husband and his family. Her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been booked.
Who Was Bhuvaneshwari?
Originally from Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, Bhuvaneshwari worked as a software engineer and lived with her husband Harish Kumar — also a software engineer — at HM World City Apartments, JP Nagar 8th Phase.
The couple had married four years ago by mutual consent, with her family spending Rs 25 lakh, including Rs 3 lakh on gold, according to Deccan Herald.
What Allegedly Drove Her To This Point?
After marriage, the harassment over money demands reportedly began. A few months ago, Kumar moved back to Tamil Nadu while Bhuvaneshwari stayed in Bengaluru with her parents and their one-year-old child. He had allegedly been pressing for a divorce and failed to visit even when their child was unwell.
How Was She Found?
According to local reports, when a friend’s repeated calls went unanswered, she grew alarmed and contacted Bhuvaneshwari’s mother, who found the room locked. She had allegedly hanged herself inside.
What Action Has Been Taken?
Based on a complaint by her father Anbalagan, Thalaghattapura police registered a dowry harassment case against Harish Kumar, his mother Kartigaivalli, and brother Rakesh Kumar. Investigation is underway.
