Tensions gripped the area of Sagolband in Manipur’s Imphal West on Sunday as security forces used smoke bombs and tear gas shells to disperse agitated protesters, leaving at least five people injured.

The protest broke out over the government’s alleged failure to safeguard lives and property, especially following the Tronglaobi bomb attack that claimed the lives of two children. A large group of people, including local residents and youth, took to the streets and expressed outrage over the incident.

As the situation escalated out of control, security forces resorted to tear gas shelling to control the crowd. Thick plumes of smoke filled the streets, triggering panic among locals as many rushed to safer areas.

Eyewitnesses reported intense scenes of chaos and distress as shells were fired in quick succession to push back the demonstrators. Several young protesters were arrested by security forces. The situation remains tense with heavy deployment of forces in and around Sagolband to prevent further escalation.
