With ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, smashing age old box office records, one of the film’s stellar appearances, which is making people take note, is that of the vivid portrayal of Ranveer Singh’s mother.
Jalandhar bred actor Madhurjeet Sarghi plays Prabhneet Kaur, the mother of Ranveer Singh’s character Jaskirat Singh Rangi.
Sarghi’s short yet deeply impactful presence has struck a chord with the audiences.
Formerly noted for her acting as the tough and empathetic lawyer Archana Bajaj in the film Chhapaak, Sarghi’s understated yet intense screen presence in Dhurandhar part 2 and the ability to lend weight to the frames she populates, marks her as the rare actor to watch out for.
A short glimpse of her standing in the midst of sprawling fields in one of Ranveer’s brief flashbacks in Dhurandhar 1 was only a hint.
The actor has been lauded for her emotional and sensitive portrayal of Rangi’s mother – the pivot to the backstory of Rangi’s transition into Hamza.
Born and bred in Jalandhar, Madhurjeet did her graduation from the HMV College, Jalandhar, and passionately pursued theatre in the city (and Mumbai) for years, before Bollywood came calling.
Even back in college, her portrayals in the plays ‘Kajri Ban’ and as Amrita Shergill (in the play ‘Amrita Shergill – Ek Agni Pakshi’) captivated audiences.
Her myriad Television and cinema experiences include, ‘Na Aana Is Des Meri Lado’ (TV), films Firaaq, Manto, Angneepath and Chhapaak.
A quintessential Punjabi at heart, Sarghi is well read and a connoisseur of global cinema.
Coming from a family of artistes and film makers, Sarghi’s father Harjit Singh is a film maker (Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe, Heer Ranjha), and her mother Tejinder Kaur is an academic and author.
Sarghi is married to Anurag Singh, the director of Border 2, Jatt and Juliet, Super Singh and Punjab 1984.
She currently lives in Mumbai with her husband and son Shivaay.
