Businessman Anil Rathod, 45, son-in-law of former Karnataka minister Revunayak Belamagi, was hacked to death at his office in Kalaburagi late on Thursday night. Three men arrived at Venkateswara Complex on Old Jewargi Road in an autorickshaw, broke in and attacked him with machetes. Rathod died on the spot. The attackers fled immediately after.
According to The Times of India, Kalaburagi police commissioner Sharanappa and senior officers rushed to the scene.
A dog squad and forensic experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory collected evidence. CCTV footage from the area has been secured and investigative teams are currently analysing it. A case has been registered at Station Bazar police station.

Rathod was engaged in finance and real estate, operating out of his office in the P&T Colony area тАФ a location he apparently frequented late into the night.
His political connection, as son-in-law of a former minister with considerable standing in the Kalaburagi region, has added weight to the case. The murder sent a wave of tension through the city, TOI reported.
