Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sounded an alarm over US President Donald Trump’s “entire civilisation will die tonight” threat for Iran, calling it “unacceptable in the modern world.”
Trump’s recent threat has sparked alarm across the world, as he warned of heavy strikes targeting Iran’s power plants and bridges if the clerical regime fails to reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz and allow free traffic for oil and gas by Tuesday, 8 PM Eastern Time. His choice of words has particularly gained attention, leading to speculation that the US is moving towards a nuclear attack.
In a post on X, Gandhi slammed Trump’s language or possible action towards “ending a civilisation”, saying that the use of nuclear weapons could never be justified under any circumstances.
“Wars are tragic, yet they remain a reality. Any language or action that contemplates the end of civilisation is unacceptable in the modern world. The use of nuclear weapons can never be justified – under any circumstances,” he said.

Trump threatened that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” as Iran showed no sign of accepting his ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz. “A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he said on Truth Social.
“However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalised minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World,” he added.
However, the White House has denied considering the use of nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Iran said it would retaliate against US allies in the Gulf, whose desert cities would be uninhabitable without power or water. Ahead of the deadline, strikes on Iran intensified, hitting railway and road bridges, an airport and a petrochemical plant.
US forces attacked targets on Kharg Island, home to Iran’s main oil export terminal. Iran responded by declaring it would no longer hold back from hitting its Gulf neighbours’ infrastructure, and said it had carried out fresh strikes on a ship in the Gulf and a huge Saudi petrochemical complex.
