Congress leader Pawan Khera moves Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in an Assam case over allegations against CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife

Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the complaint filed against him by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma. The case was filed after Khera levelled allegations on Sarma’s wife that she has multiple passports.

Taking action on CM’s complaint, an Assam Police team on Tuesday reached the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera for questioning him and carried out a search. However, Khera was not found there.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Pawan Khera and accused him of “running away.”

Speaking to reporters, Sarma claimed, “Those who levelled allegations are now running away…The governments of three states have said that the documents on which the allegations were levelled are duplicate.”

He further intensified his accusations by suggesting a deeper conspiracy behind the allegations, saying, “These documents might have been given to Pawan Khera by Rahul Gandhi.”

In a press conference on Sunday, Khera alleged that the chief minister’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, has multiple passports and foreign property, which were not declared in the CM’s election affidavit.

Priyanka Gandhi Slams BJP

Reacting to the matter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called the action against Khera a “shameless attack” and accused Assam CM of trying to “hunt” down Khera for asking question.

“The shameless attack on Congress leader Pawan Khera by the BJP only speaks of their arrogance and guilt. Every Congress person, indeed every Indian who believes in our Constitution and understands that raising questions and challenging power is the basis of a strong democracy stands by him as his home is ransacked and he is hunted down by a Chief Minister who has lost his moral right to govern,” Priyanka’s post on X reads.

Youth Congress protests at Jantar Mantar

The Youth Congress on Wednesday protested against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi over the action taken by Assam Police on Khera.

Several Indian Youth Congress (IYC) members protested, led by the party president, Uday Bhanu Chib, at Jantar Mantar. They raised slogans, waving Congress flags and holding placards that read, “Kharge ko gaali har Dalit ka apmaan hai” (an insult to Kharge is an insult to every Dalit).
