In the race to win the hearts of Bengali voters, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday delivered a candid message to the people ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections, emphasising the emotional weight of their support.

Addressing a public gathering, Banerjee said, “…If you don’t vote for us, then I will not maintain any relationship with you. I am a very sentimental person.”

She further took a strong stance against opposition parties, questioning the loyalty of voters who supported the BJP and Congress in the Lok Sabha elections.

“If you voted for BJP and Congress in the Lok Sabha, will you again vote for them in the Rajya Sabha? Then who will fight for the people of Bengal? How will you get government schemes for them?” she asked.

Highlighting the efforts of her party’s grassroots workers, CM Banerjee said, “When our BLOs were running the camps, Blocks 1 and 2 helped the local people…where were you then? Now you come only at voting time. Even after doing so much work, in Malda, one seat went to Congress, one to BJP, and none to TMC. If TMC had been present, much more work would have been done here,” she added.

In another public meeting at Manikchak, Mamata Banerjee urged people to unite to stop the BJP in the assembly elections. She accused the party of disrespecting religions, creating unrest, and targeting locals in Malda, while claiming central agencies are being misused for political purposes.

CM Banerjee said, “If you want to live peacefully for the next 5 years, then you must unite to stop the BJP. BJP will ruin the country. They don’t respect any religion. They impose a religion that’s manufactured by them. Maa Kali’s prasad includes both fish and meat. What religion is the BJP trying to preach? They first need to understand the culture of Bengal.”

“Don’t fall for any provocation. They want to create trouble and get 30-40 people arrested from every area. This is happening in Malda. Innocent people are getting arrested. NIA, CBI, ED, BSF & CISF are under Mota Bhai’s control. Mota Bhai calls us thieves. But where does the money from the borders go? You brand people as infiltrators for speaking in Bengali. You [BJP] are the biggest infiltrators. They come here during polls to capture votes forcefully,” she added.

West Bengal Assembly elections are set to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
