Iran on Friday said that it used a new air defence system to target a US fighter jet, marking a notable escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington. As per a report by Reuters, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command on Saturday said he country would “definitely achieve full control” over its airspace.
The statement comes after a US fighter jet was reportedly shot down in Iran on Friday. However, the spokesperson did not provide further details about the location of the encounter or the outcome of the targeting.
He further underscored Iran’s determination to strengthen its air defence capabilities amid ongoing regional and international friction.

According to a US official and an Israeli official, US Special Forces conducted a search operation after aircraft were shot down and one of two crew members was rescued.
The Pentagon notified the House Armed Services Committee that the status of a second service member is not known, AP reported.
The circumstances that hit the plane were at first unclear. But in an email from the Pentagon obtained by The Associated Press, the US military said it received notification of “an aircraft being shot down” in the Middle East. However, no additional details were provided in the mail.
In another incident, a second US Air Force combat aircraft reportedly went down in the Middle East on Friday, according to a US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive military situation.
The official also added that it was not clear whether the aircraft had crashed or had been shot down, and there was no immediate indication of any Iranian involvement.
The New York Times also reported that the second aircraft went down.
