As Tamil Nadu heads towards the 2026 Assembly elections, candidates across the state are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for victory. From grassroots outreach to spiritual rituals, the campaign landscape reflects a blend of tradition, strategy, and intense political rivalry.
A Chennai-based astrologer told the Times Of India that several political candidates have been enquiring about the ‘shatru samharam’ ritual as they believe that such rituals will weaken their rivals.
Another astrologer, who specialises in auspicious times, told the publication that candidates ask them about their winning chances and when will their good time start.
Some candidates also ask about lucky colour to be worn during campaigning for better electoral luck.
This highlights the continued influence of faith and superstition in modern electoral politics, even as campaigns grow more technologically driven.
The elections in Tamil Nadu are scheduled for April 23, are expected to witness a three-cornered contest between the DMK-led alliance, the AIADMK-BJP combine, and actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). With over 200 constituencies at stake, the battle is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent years.
